Will be interesting to see if Yianni wrestles at collegiate duals, I would guess frustrating trip for him at World Teams…. No shame in who he lost to, but Yianni has taken a couple losses lately at different levels and he is not used to that….without Yianni i dont see Cornell getting by Iowa State in round robin, but will be close either way….

Was it unwise to have him compete in the World Cup during his collegiate senior year? He just lost to Gomez who was handled by unbeaten RS frosh Paniro Johnson. He didn't look sick (maybe he was) -- he looked like he got jacked up by Gomez in ways he wasn't used to. Gomez apparently has a good style for Yianni. Who wins the rematch? Uncertain, especially when Yianni decides to compete in Sr freestyle right after that loss. Puzzling to me.

If you were the Cornell head coach, what could you say? Don't compete? I think YD has the final say on that, at this point, and not the HC.

Yianni has a great relationship with Mike Grey, going back years, but with Yianni’s pedigree I would agree he has the final say at this point…..

My guess is Yianni wrestles, he’s a team guy…..Cornell certainly could use him

Screw the pedigree! :o I'm OLD-SCHOOL, if he's the leader-of-the-pack, and a TEAM player then he should've been with the team in Vegas, at practice, etc. IMO juggling the two styles is messing with his head, he's temporarily lost focus! Agree with Spladle, without him BIG-RED don't beat Iowa State, but I have no-doubt he'll wrestle in the Duals, and get his mojo back. Have always enjoyed his candid, and introspective interviews.

Yes, he has an obligation to his college team, but I believe he also should feel an obligation to his country.

Yianni’s accomplished almost everything a wrestler can at the NCAA level, and he’ll be back in a cu uniform for the bulk of the season and the year end tournaments.

I definitely liked Snyder going to an international event rather than competing in national Duals. LU defeated a team that would go on to win the National (individual) Tournament.

By the way, I don't know if OhSU was ranked # at that time. But saying our victory over Cornell a couple years before was the only victory over a #1 team in any sport is questionable. Football team beat #1 Cal Davis in 1977, #1 Murray St in 1979, and #1 Delaware, a lot.--- LaCrosse probably had some wins over #1 in the sports pre NCAA days.
