Ranking Update
Re: Ranking Update
Cheeze Man, I am not getting carried away, just living in the moment and appreciating what is a crazy year for the Brown and White.

I'm amazed. I can't remember a time in recent seasons when we had 4 top ten wrestlers. And that they really belong there. I knew Stanich was a good recruit but couldn't have guessed he would crack top 5, and stay there. Maybe the 2003 team with Letters, Cooperman and Trenge. I think that team started the season ranked 2nd behind Okie State but gradually slipped a bit during the season, this group of folks started low and are peaking at the right time.

2019-2020 - Paetzall, Humphreys, Kutler and Wood.
All ranked top ten at end of regular season, and all seeded top ten in the NCAA Tournament.

Re: Ranking Update
And if memory serves me correctly, Jordan Kutler had THE toughest schedule during the year of any wrestler in any weight class. Think ha wrestled 8 of the 9 in the Top 10 not named Jordan Kutler.Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 13, 2024 2:44 pmSomewhat agree with that Mookie. 157 - Levi from PSU is elite. 141 - the top 3 are pretty damn good. Bartlett, Woods and Mendez.
I was having this conversation last week regarding the depth and quality of wrestlers this year. Obviously there are hammers at most weight classes but it just doesn’t seem as loaded compared to a few years ago.
The one that stands out to me was 174 during Jordan Kutler’s junior year. You had Zahid Valencia, Mark Hall, Myles Amine, Daniel Lewis, Bo Jordan and Jordan in the top 6. The first 5 were all 4X AA’s and 3 with world and Olympic medals now. Jordan was a 3X. That’s about as elite as a top 6 you will find anywhere

>>>>>>I believe the mix that year was a solid AA candidate in each class——1 frosh,1 soph,, 1 jr and 1 Sr—with Kutler the only one with a top 3 ranking. The Covid shut down was a bummer on so many levels.
The current AA mix has three top 3 ranked guys with a definite overall younger eligibility tilt——2 frosh, 1 soph, 1 jr.
As much as I like seeing Lehigh with a top 5 tournament ranking——— achieving that goal is, imo, highly dependent on the four bookends each winning an EIWA title. Crookham would probably still earn a high NCAA seed with a loss to Vito, but I think Beard, Taylor and Stanich would all receive much lower seeds sans an EIWA title.
The odds of attaining a high podium finish increase dramatically for the highest seeded wrestlers.

Re: Ranking Update
Arizona State dual will test Lehigh's rankings, assuming there are no ducks from either side. ASU has a nice team with strengths mirroring Lehigh. Chlebove (133) pushed Daton Fix to the very end and will do the same with Crookham. Figueroa (125) vs. Stanich and Schultz vs. Taylor (285) are toss-ups.

That is true, I was thinking having 3 top fives, one top, one second and one third.

>>>>>>> Reply to mookster: per a recent Flo article on ASU, highly ranked hwt Schultz will be out of the lineup vs Lehigh——-so advantage Taylor. I agree that ASU’s two lightweights will tough matches for Stanich and Crookham.
Re: Ranking Update
Disappointing. I was looking forward to Taylor taking out the giant Mountain of Blubber. I'll never forget Jordan Wood picking him up at Nationals.
