Rogers will be a 20/21 year old the first time he takes mat for Lehigh? He stayed extra year at prep school right, then medical redshirt year......Not judging, just unusual for our program (but certainly not all programs)

Oh the list is long and distinguished of Lehigh prize recruits who didn't quite make it the distance. Injuries, transfers out.

Look familiar? Four-time WPIAL champion and Southwest Region finalist… won AA state titles as a sophomore and junior… took third in the state as a freshman and second as a senior.

Another guy...not even at Lehigh anymore.
100 straight wins, 105-1 overall
4x All-American
2x State Champion
3x State Finalist

The great prized recruits have come and gone for many a different reason.

We shall see who makes the cut next year, but Lehigh is FAR from deep enough in talent to be where it once was.

Not in current NCAA, there are 7 year and in a particular case an 8th year student.

Kilrain graduated high school. Then Blair PG. A Lehigh redshirt year. +6 years from high school. I do not know if he was 17 or 18 when he graduated up in Massachusetts. He likely was about 24.

I suspect the past 10 years we have had a number of 23 and 24 year old on the roster.

>>>>>>>Reply the spladle: how can you follow Lehigh wrestling and think a 20 yr old redshirt frosh is noteworthy?

Reply to HFO: Every program has a recurring bucket full of quality recruits that don’t pan out. Same in every college sport.

Also, don’t hold your breath waiting for Iowa football recruits to transition to wrestling. Big Ten football rules the roost and its weight lifting/adding, not weight cutting. Hwt might be an exception, but Iowa football usually has a late Dec bowl game.

Reply to FloridaGuys Reply to Spladles Post in the matter of Caden Rogers age under the post stream Recruits-2023:

I don't in any way think it is remarkable to have a 20 year old freshman, I do think it is unusual to have a 21 year old first year (let's be politically correct now) who has never set foot on the mat for Lehigh (as a redshirt or otherwise).......and by the way it is ......do you consider like 5 guys (if that) in the last 15 years usual? If so I would think the percentages tell you that you are incorrect.......

I don’t think we have ever in our history been noted for our depth of multi year state/prep champs. Our historic success has been having 2-3 true studs in the lineup while trying to recruit 2 multi crowned studs per year to keep it going with solid. That was the NCAA team success formula in Caruso/Peritore/Stuart era & more recently the Letters/Trenge/Cooperman era. Currently we have that potential with Beard/Crookham/Rogers & an emerging star in Taylor.

Looking ahead a couple years, there is the opportunity by recruiting a couple of these local stud sophomores with Gaj from Quakertown likely the shining star of an exceptional group. Keeping one of these guys to stay at home like was done with Crookham could also influence others to stay in the Valley in the same room with their local buddies as these guys all know one another.

The glass is half full!!!

Nick Kunstek competed at Elite 8 Duals for Team Dynasty. Earned 3 wins and got to test his mettle with Joe Sealey in his only loss.
