Looking toward the NCAAs
>>>>>>>>> Yes, it’s early, but some recent results at 197 might help Beard.
Both Beard and Humphries are strong favorites to prevail next weekend and at the EIWAs———- the EIWA isn’t strong at at 157 or 197 ( 133 in a different situation).
Heading into the NCAAs with a conf title and clean record in Jan/Feb should help their seeds.
Plus, this weekend two of the top 197s (Missouri and IowaSt) both lost——and one of them will pick up another loss in the big XII tournament.
And 157 has two top ACC guys so again, only one will emerge from their conf unscathed.
Yes, they still have to win on the mat, but everything else being being equal, I’ll take the higher seed almost every time.
Next coaches rankings should be very interesting.

Re: Looking toward the NCAAs
I guess we’re assuming it’s a given that Quincy Monday is staying at 165??
Re: Looking toward the NCAAs
We should get 7 at least. 125:165 174 need to earn one at EIWAs along with the others

If his weight changes I’ll revise my thinking.
As for qualifiers, I also think the over/under is 7.

3 AA’s including one Top 3 would salvage a bad dual season. Top 2 at EIWA also important goal.

He'll have to decide by next weekend. 1.5% descent plan would allow him to weight 164.17 on 10-Feb and still make 157 by 3-Mar. I guess we'll know for sure if he weighs in for the dual on Feb 11.FloridaGuy wrote: ↑Sun Feb 05, 2023 9:18 pm >>>>>>>> Not making an assumption———Monday wrestled at 165 this weekend.

10-Feb: 164.17
17-Feb: 161.75
24-Feb: 159.36
3-Mar: 157.00
I like Humphreys' outlook in Tulsa. He's currently projecting as the #4 seed and beat the current #1 (Robb) in the tourney last year, 8-5. No concern if Monday drops -- Hump has a career winning record against him.
Re: Looking toward the NCAAs
Monday might think he has a better chance against Humphreys than Ramirez, who he just lost to. I think Monday won in their last outing and Humphreys was on the bench quite a while and didn't look sharp against Army.
Which weight class - 157 or 165 - should be the stronger at the NCAAs?
And speaking of Humphreys, did anyone else notice that at the end of his bout against Army he departed via the wrestlers' entrance than via the LU bench side, which is customary? Any ideas?

I was at Freedom doing District Duals so didn't see that. He might have just gone over to see the next guys getting ready. The medical people (Trainer Phil the best ping-pong player and Terpstra- the orthopedic that did my knee replacement and is on a billboard on 22 for LVHN) are located at the bench and usually do things over there.

Re: Looking toward the NCAAs
You are kidding, right? 165 has *three* NCAA champions (O'Toole, Carr, and Griffith), a returning semi-finalist (Monday), and at least five other All-Americans. Not counting Ramirez, Facundo (PSU), and others.
157 has like 4-5 All-Americans.
