No one is using COVID as an excuse. Just stating facts. But others like to put down the wrestlers and coaches. And a lot of athletes took a gap year then. Some have transferred how many times. Let’s get behind the wrestlers and coaches and support them. That is what they need. Lehigh wrestling has great coaches and wrestlers.

WHERE did Luke Karam transfer to? His DAD, the very successful coach at BECCA, recently announced his retirement citing his wanting to watch his sons WRESTLE in college. Did he not have this option at Lehigh? :?

He "retired" in 2018 to watch his kids. Doesn't give a reason for this one.

Return on Investment?
What's to build for a nationally competitive team
125 ? Top 20 ...... in Yr 1 Bailey was highly competitive w/5-6 Top 16s
133 Crookham/McGonagle Top 12 ..... where's the love? Connor was ranked #5; Crookham at least as good
141 McGonagle/Hines Top 12 ....
149 ? Hines/Brignola Top 30 ... Brigs will be 157; Hines may be here
157 Humphreys/Bryant Top 3 ... pray for Hump but don't count on it
165 Bryant/? Top 30 .... he's 149/157, not a 165, at least yet
174 Logan/? Top 40 ... whatever
184 ? Top 30 .... early to know but Rodgers expects to be Top 20-25.
197 Beard Top 12 ... he was Top 3-7 for 4 mo.
285 Taylor Top 20 ... believe that's the plan
At best, we field a team with 4 R12 possibilities. 2 Top 20 talent. 3 Top 30 talent. 1 Top 40 talent.
-------
For fans asking 'when will we contend again?' you might look in the mirror and recall we had -- for several mo -- 3 Top 5's for the 3rd time in 30 yrs. With better luck w/injuries, McG could have placed 5th (28 + 12 = 40 pts). Had Beard managed a 6th (quite believable) that could readily be 49 pts -- very possibly tied for 9th w/VaTech.

As Okla State will tell you, contending for Top 10 ain't the same as doing it. I'm not aware they had significant injuries but sure performed like they did, with 28.5 pts as a superpower.

Stop with this “if this if that” stuff. Just dumb.
We finished 20th.

Surprising to me that Brig is going 157. He wasn't a strong looking or strong acting (sounds like a household cleaning product) 149. And then there's Bailey pencilled in at 125, leaving out Seymour and possibly Delaney. I would think 125 would be competitive.

>>>>>> Way too early to pencil in who will start and what their upside is.

No one thought McG would have a clear cut top 5 ranking by a panel of coaches going into the EIWAs. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

McG’s injury was bad luck, but his abominable EIWA seed (#4) didn’t help and was a clear example of EIWA clown show seeding.

Hines had a good NCAA, but 149 may be a stretch and I think Brigs would benefit from a red shirt year.

I think Seymour will be in the 125 mix.

Taylor has real upside at 285 as does Manzona at 149/157.

Crookham had a few good wins at the Midlands plus a fairly close win over Bucknell’s guy that finished EIWA 7th.

The middle of the lineup is wide open. A number of guys have opportunities to step up as McG did last year.

Humphreys is the wild card and I hope he gets a fully deserved positive eligibility response from the NCAA

Agree with FL Guy on Humphreys, but it's probably not gonna happen. Then again, just prior to Easterns I thought Michael Beard would make the NCAA finals. McGonagle had one high quality ranked win over Phillippi but as it turned out the Pitt Panther wasn't all that highly ranked. He didn't have to face Vito in the dual and as nice a season as he had, I would say he was over-ranked at #5. Perhaps he would have placed top 5, we will never know -- just my opinion. One thing we do know is McGonagle is way better suited to 133 than 141, so bumping him up to make room for Crookham is ill-advised. I don't know what shakes out at 133, but whoever starts will be a solid AA candidate.
Hines settled in nicely at 141 to put it mildly. Bumping him up to 149 is also ill-advised. One of these 3 is probably going to sit unless there is no other option at 149 and I think there will be. Bryant, Grungo, maybe Repos. Bryant obviously has the most experience -- if he maintains focus, and wrestles a disciplined bout, he'll do damage. But from what we've all seen, that's a big "if." Slight chance Humphreys is back at 157 -- that turns the team around if that's the case. 165-174 as it stands are problematic. If Caden Rogers is as advertised, 184 will be set. Beard and Taylor as anchors are reliable. 125 - Bailey made some improvements from neutral as the year went on but he's far from where he needs to be to compete with the better guys. It's just too hard to compete when you can't take someone down....someone good that is. Seymour, on the other hand, is very good from neutral. I would hope these 2 share mat time and see who emerges at the end.
