Denny, I think you have terribly misread this thread. There have been zero, none, zilch, nada shots taken at Hunter Mays. Factual recitation of his true frosh record only. Yes, 16-17 with a significant win against Lucas Revano but largely a learning curve year. That’s about it. After all this is a wrestling forum so the guys are discussing wrestling.

It seems to me you are concerned about this young man reading comments and falling apart. Listen, he knows his record better than anyone. He’s been welcomed and treated fairly if not kindly. There isn’t anyone who doesn’t want this guy to do well.

So who’s the scab picker?

HALT....do not post if you are hungry, angry, lonely or tired. Or off meds.

I like Denny and his contribution to the sport. However, Denny despite his age, never learned, "Do what you always did, get what you always got.". A sure glutton for punishment.

Speak up if you have something to say. Nobody has a gun to their head to keep reading. It has followers active and not so active. It's about as good here as it gets. Not much better out there for fairly open discussion whether wrestling or tangential impact to wrestling programs.

Give more. Show up more and post. Not a big fan of filtering. Not very good long term to suppress ones true self

Good post by HFO, as approx half to 2/3rd are. But I admit that Spladle (who hasn't been very negative lately) takes his toll on me and a number of others, with his specialized mocking bird zingers and flat out stupid overuses of my name (also Hess's wife). I choose to compare him to scab picking. "Cherry Picking 101"? .
Mountain Hwk not so clever, we simply take sledge hammers to the face. But he's right about Mays.

But every fan alive knows you can't judge true frosh years too seriously. No-time NJ Champ John Van Doren was sub-500 fr/fr before NCAA 3rd in Yr 2, never once r/s.

Add Dave Esposito and Mike Lieberman (DNQ 1st 2 yrs) ... both so-so until Yr 4 ..... yada, yada. Make fun of "history" if you must, but it's all we have to lean on until the kid's done.

True, and the “history is 16-17 in D1 wrestling …. That’s all the “history” we have on him at the college level isn’t it?….

True - and NJ never champ John Van Doren was 12-15 fr/fr year; EIWA 4; looked awful vs Clint Matter 2x
But placed NCAA 3 one yr later. Clint never medaled.

Try some of that renowned skepticism about 'Biff''s history

Thats not "Mays history"….. you could also cite as many or more guys who ended up career .500 wrestlers or below who were 16-17 as freshman…..No one else is "Mays history" till he proves it on the mat….

All your cherry picking historical nonsense means nothing, other than anything’s possible…..well no sh$t…..

Jake Logan was 20-14 his first two years (redshirt/fresh)……then went 23-29 his next two years (soph/junior)…….Brian Meyer was 23-20 (reshirt/frosh) his first two years, then went 19-24 his last three years…..

Oh, please. I'll pull a number out of my ass and claim that there are ten guys with fair to poor freshman records who never really achieved much for every success story you dust off from your archives. Talk about cherry picking!

Proving the point that you can't judge much by frosh records.

While true, if you were asked to bet whether a guy who was sub-500 as a freshman would be NCAA 3rd as a sophomore or not, which way would you bet?

Again, proving the point.
