Transfer Portal
Re: Transfer Portal
Hughes both in his own wrestling and in his training at Lehigh had a way of taking an athlete to peak intensity in a training regimen and on match day. It was as if he was unleashing their ability.
Spot On!!! if you were lucky enough to get his attention in practice he would improve your intensity and confidence
He is missed

Re: Transfer Portal
The portal is something to look at, the amount of wrestlers is mind boggling, there are around 150 wrestlers in the portal and uncommitted elsewhere......sure a lot would not interest a wrestling program like Lehigh's but you would think many would.....
Must give coaches migraines......

Re: Transfer Portal
There are many reasons why guys enter the portal, but you have to think the overwhelming majority are looking to start somewhere else. If there are 150 total and you subtract the most famous ones --Griffith, Nagao, Truax, Mesenbrink plus the grad students from NW to Michigan -- that leaves a ton of guys like Seth Nevills who fled to Maryland so he could start. IMO, Lehigh was fortunate to get Hunter Mays...a really good pick-up. He has 3 years plus a redshirt.
I like that guy from Okla U Alejandro Herrera-Rondon at 157. He's from PA. And Tyler Eischens the grad student form Stanford at 174. Lots of programs will be after these two.

>>>>>>> The transfer portal should not be a migraine for any quality coach.
More work———-yes, but also significantly more opportunity to bring in immediate contributors to the team.
Recruiting transfers who have already shown they can handle D-1 wrestling and college academics is significantly less risky than 16-18 yr olds.
Lehigh was 100% successful landing Beard and Samuelson last year————-whereas the success rate on any incoming hs recruiting class is always a fraction of that.
Even the success rate for uber blue chip recruits is well under 100%.

Re: Transfer Portal
