Week-End Salvo

Whew! Made it through another season. Lots of changes have become apparent. "Wait until next year" is an ongoing refrain.

Lehigh wrestling is 'good' and doing reasonably well, but it is not the premier program it once was. Cornell is the new KIng of the EIWA. We compete with them but one look at the Pan Am Games watching Vito, Yianni, and Dake and it's obvious they have something going on that we don't. Our lone entry was 'big brothered' by Thomas Gilman once again.

I don't know what the answer is. It certainly isn't to complain. Everyone connected to the program is working hard and doing their best.
The big issues?
* An aging fan base who has financially supported the program -- that will drop off as these fans expire.
* Financial options for recruits that were not available in years past but are now.
* Expectations from fans who fund and support through attendance of better results.

Let's key in on the last point. Fans at every top program have expectations. Listen to Tom Brands talk about this sometime -- he understands it's a thing and it's normal. When fans have expectations, that means they are involved. All the bickering on this forum is because our fans are involved. As they should be. Is it negative sometimes? Yeah. So what. Karping from fans can always be dealt with. Let me ask this: would you rather have a fan post something you might disagree with or just stay away, and not support the program? Or find another program to support?

Fan engagement cannot be managed and shouldn't be. Every program has fans who post negative stuff, so let's not act like it's personal because it isn't. It's just how they feel at that moment. It may be rude sometimes, but it's the world we live in today. Wrestlers and athletes in all sports deal with it every day. It's part of the package. If it makes someone uncomfortable -- if it makes parents uncomfortable -- maybe look into George Mason or Gardner-Webb where no one cares.

Have a great weekend!

Quite the kerfuffle over on the Iowa forum. The lead donor for their new wrestling facility said some "indelicate" things about Ali Regan.

>>>>to ORACLE: Astute observations pal, but the reality,..and well stated.

As an OLD-TIMER, Caruso's age, I will continue to support the team at-the-door,.. for better/worse! :)
