Re: June 2-4 Freestyle
taylor loses to minnesota-bound stud hopke 5-2. the match was very close (hopke's final 2 was off a taylor hail mary td attempt with 5 secs). that one hurt. taylor seems to get close to these upsets regularly and just falls short
Re: June 2-4 Freestyle
Lest we forget, this is a *completely* different animal than folk style. About the only measure one can use is ability to score from neutral....just about everything else are junk moves that score off back exposure. No riding, back on your feet, etc, etc. If you can score TDs you do well in FS. Doesn't mean the same guy could beat you in a college match.
Remember Johny 'one n' Hendricks beat Troy Letters 10-0 at Fargo -- that didn't translate to college.
Freak-style.
Take it for what it is --- good, tough off-season competition that hones guys and keeps them hungry to improve.

... it appears that Taylor name was removed from the U23 125Kg bracket.
(I can't find it. )

Sir, a pint of you finest ale, please!
Never argue with an idiot... he'll bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.

Re: June 2-4 Freestyle
I think we all get that there isn't a one-to-one between folkstyle and freestyle. Pat Glory's experience this year is case in point. But there's enough correlation between success in the two sports that these are legitimately interesting matches.
It's not gonna work for some styles, Humphreys wouldn't be a candidate for freestyle. It would be nice to see Beard out there, though, what with the one less minute and lots of takedowns.

I was about to say that Wilt lbtf to Cornell's Cardenas until a brick was thrown on Wilt's behalf...

Re: June 2-4 Freestyle
taylor takes 3rd at 125kg.
one interesting note from today's tournament: carter bailey at 61kg. wonder if we will see him at 133 this year... perhaps a backup plan for crookham?

Re: June 2-4 Freestyle
Bailey has a motor. Great effort. He did show some leg attacks for a change. But when you watch him and then Seymour, it’s hard to imagine Sheldon not being the starter at 125.
As for Bailey at 133 — maybe.
What we don’t know: will McGonagle be fully recovered from
his nasty injury? If not, 133 may be academic with Crookham.
Then Hines at 141. Pretty decent opening 3.
I liked what I saw from Rogers. Moves really well.
Taylor keeps improving. More patience.
149-174 (4 weights) are question marks but there are enough guys in the room that maybe 2-3 emerge. Then maybe a true frosh at 149?
Should be a solid team.
