Cornell Dual

Post by mookie » Tue Jan 09, 2024 8:24 am

125: Stanich (LU) def Brett Ungar (CU)
133: Crookham (LU) def Ethan Qureshi (CU)
141: Vince Cornella def. Bailey (LU)
149: Ethan Fernandez (CU) def. Munch (LU)
157: Meyer Shapiro (CU) def. Brignola (LU)
165: Julian Ramirez (CU) def. Logan (LU)
174: Benny Baker (CU) def. Lawrence (LU)
184: Chris Foca (CU) def. Wilt (LU)
197: Beard (LU) def. Jacob Cardenas (CU)
285: Lewis Fernandes (CU) def. Taylor (LU)

7/3 Cornell

If Vito wrestles, it's entirely possible Cornell could win every bout.

I would say Taylor has a solid puncher's chance against Fernandes........otherwise seems about right

Benny Baker will not beat Lawrence
If Griffin goes at 149, could be a WBF for LU
Taylor beats a waning Fernandes
Beard and Cardenas is the marquee bout. I like our guy.

Says here it will be close. Lehigh has sort of owned Cornell in duals over the last 5 years.
2019 W 19-12
2020 W 19-14
2021 no dual
2022 W 18-15
2023 L 15-18

By the way might be Josh Saunders at 149 for Cornell second semester, who Griffin did pin this year.....that was however the third match of the day for Saunders and he looked gassed as he works his way back to wrestling form......not an excuse just an observation

Hernandez did beat Owen Reinsel 6-3 earlier this year in his only match this year against a Lehigh wrestler...

I like your confidence in Lawrence, just not sure he's earned it.......

Baker wrestled well against Meki Lewis so let's get serious. Lawrence has zero chance.

141: Vince Cornella def. Bailey (LU): Agree, if Bailey, close, LU 7-3, if Hines (who was throwing up at the Sheridan, before the match, but wanted to wrestle), Toss Up.
149: Ethan Fernandez (CU) def. Munch (LU): I think it will be Griffin, toss up, lean LU 10-3
157: Meyer Shapiro (CU) def. Brignola (LU): Agree Shapiro is more explosive, LU 10-6
165: Julian Ramirez (CU) def. Logan (LU): Agree, LU 10-9
174: Benny Baker (CU) def. Lawrence (LU): Toss up, but probably CU, LU 10-12

197: Beard (LU) def. Jacob Cardenas (CU): Agree, LU 13-15
285: Lewis Fernandes (CU) def. Taylor (LU): Definitely Disagree, Taylor maybe by fall. Fernandes is pretty good, but Taylor is coming on and is much better than last year. Let's call it by regular decision, LU 16-15 or even 19-12.

7/3 Cornell:

If Vito wrestles, it's entirely possible Cornell could win every bout. Agree it is possible, but I don't think so. Ryan's defense is just too good.

**** Dave: It amazes me how you just love to look on the dim side of Lehigh. I have watched 2 Cornell matches in the last 2 days (Ohio St and V Tech) on Youtube and Yes they are good but Lehigh should win, especially at home. In fact if Andonian (who granted is fading), of V Tech did not tear his knee against Shapiro the outcome might very well have been much different. If Hines wrestles and is healthy, he can beat Cornella. I have it 6-4 LU or possibly even 7-3. Regardless it will be a Great Dual.

Wow!! Legger - is that really you, or FLGuy?
125 - Will we see Stanich? If not, leans Cornell
133 - Guess we’re assuming no Vito? I’d think he’d be itching for a rematch.
141 - leans Cornell. Bailey looking better and better.
149 - leans Cornell regardless of who wrestles
157 - Cornell by major. Love Brigs, but Shapiro is a freaking beast.
165 - Cornell. Could get ugly depending on which Logan shows up.
174 - Leans Cornell slightly
184 - Cornell by major. Foca is tough
197 - tossup. Cardenas is one strong SOB, but Beard is better on their feet.
285 - Leans Lehigh. No way is there a pin, and Fernandes pulled out a tough one Sunday. Still like Taylor. The VA Tech wrestler hit a good blast double against Fernandes - just happens to be Taylor’s specialty.
LOT of potentially very close bouts, with most leaning Cornell’s way. Could the home crowd make a difference? Let’s hope so!! Anyone within decent driving distance - BE THERE!!

I've watched them too and Cornell is a powerhouse. Lehigh *could* win if the stars align but no way I am I saying they "should" win. It would be the dual upset of the ncaa year. If Brignola beats Shapiro it will be a massive upset. Yeah Shapiro took some tough true freshman losses but he is incredibly crafty and sharp. If Hines beats Cornella again it will be a 180 from Hines' current trajectory. Could happen but would be huge. I put zero confidence on Lawrence, I'm sorry but look at his results at these recent low tier tournaments.

Even the matches we should win will require our guys to be at the absolute top of their game. Stanich beating Ungar would be a big deal even if he is favored. Same with Taylor who will need to avenge a loss.

I propose we don't focus too much on the team score for this one. The teams are not at the same level this year. Big implications for a lot of individual matches. I'll be looking forward to those outcomes.

Will be sitting in the FRONT-ROW on Saturday, and would like to watch an NCAA finals type of bout,.. as Crookham beats Vito AGAIN! But I hear it's in jeopardy,.. unless Vito appears like a JACK-IN-THE-BOX!

Realistically believe LEHIGH to be on the short-end of a 6-4 split, unless Hines makes an appearance, and wrestles up to our expectations. Regardless, Shapiro, Ramirez, and Foca gonna put up some BONUS that we will be hard pressed to match.

All I really said was it'll be 'close' --- oh, and that I like Lawrence's chances. But love the comments!
