I would also say that in past 6 years we probably had as many Statre Champs and multiple time State Champs on one team. Not such great results. One of them had a hell of a season for Illinois.
The last post peak decline was the Pat Flynn class. Was probably Top 2 in nation and delivered next to nothing. Before that was Tommy Rohn/Mike Pirrozola class. Again, delivered next to nothing.
Lehigh culture is a double edged sword for wrestlers. You can get to National Champ or you can get injured, get beat out, get into academic trouble or get into drugs and alcohol. So much can go wrong along the way from beginning to recruit a 17 year old and getting him to peak performance by age 22.
If there is an upside to COVID + years of eligibility is that there is greater maturity on team. Examples and mentors on how to handle academics and wrestling.
My own view is that we are closer to #30 than #10. We are in era that there are fewer hidden gems. These boys wrestle nearly year round. They all go to the big tournaments. They all have video on them over years. The HUMIT open source intelligence on any of them is immense.
Reality is that Lehigh only needs to recruit a 200 mile radius and get the best from PA NJ NY MD VA. It always sounds great to say we can go nationally but number of AA proves otherwise for us. We win and place AA when we have PA and NJ wrestlers. We peak when we land PA District 11 State Champions.
The potential is there on roster. 125 to 149 will be competing. 197/285 will be serious points potential at NCAA. 165 to 184 could be ZIPPO. Or it could surprise because whomever wants a spot is going to have to beat lots of guys to hold onto it. Last man standing might turn out to be very good by EIWA.
I am not sour on Lawrence. Has had injuries and confidence issues. He is still going so there is still fight in that dog. 2x State Champ who beat some real good wrestlers to get there. Healthy and some good early wins could finally get him going. I hope itvdoes because he was a very talented wrestler.
165 to 184 for me is the price of admission or Flow monthly subscription. Seeing how they develop will be the fun of the season for me.
Enjoy it. Then we when EIWA.

Winning EIWA is meaningless now that Ivies have left. Not worth the trip to attend.

Agree, will only attend when at LU. And that's because I have family in LV, so can visit them and catch some wrestling.LUEngineer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 14, 2024 9:47 pm Winning EIWA is meaningless now that Ivies have left. Not worth the trip to attend.
