Re: Recruits 2024-2025
>>>>>>A local kid who selects Laf over Lehigh for football is meaningless for wrestling.
He may be a great wrestling talent, but it appears he has no interest in wrestling in college given his Laf choice.
Time to move on and focus on kids that want to wrestle in college.

Re: Recruits 2024-2025
Not at all what people are discussing for the most part….
The discussion for the most part centers around him choosing Lafayette for 3rd tier at best college football (top 20ish D1 teams, then all other D1 teams, then Div 1AA) over top 20 D1 college wrestling or at the least a better football program……it is indeed a strange choice….
If it was just him picking Lafayette over Lehigh for football it would make total sense at the moment…..

A kick in the teeth.
There is more broken at Lehigh that just the apparent.
1. Kinney not coming to Lehigh is not academics. He had offers from Lafayette, Fordham, Army, Navy
2. Likely a 3X State Champion and 4X Finalist. Leaving money on table for any Top 5 program from NIL.
3. Lehigh offers just about any major that Lafayette has.
4. Football > Wrestling in the equation, but a college and coaches should figure out a path the way they did with Kueter. Not unusual for dual heavy/football. Sefter, Culp, Troxell and many others, especially at Penn State.
5. Close knit family and gives opportunity to stay local. Makes not coming to Lehigh and choosing Lafayette even harder to bear.
6. Would have had McCoy, Zach and Jordan Wood as training partners along with Taylor. Could have focused on football 1st year and 2nd year and then wrestle for 3 years.
The path to NFL is a lot harder through Lehigh than going to any FBS school. At a minimum, he will get a good education and is likely to play the position of his choice right away as a freshman.
There is always hope for wrestling via transfer portal down the road, but I suspect he is not leaving Lafayette for anything other than a Top 40 football program.

Re: Recruits 2024-2025
Why is it a kick in the teeth? He wants to play football. Gaige Garcia wanted to play football. Is it so hard to believe someone would prefer football to wrestling?
Re: Recruits 2024-2025
Because he was talking with Penn State and Iowa to do both, but was passed on for football. Yes, he is entitled to his choice, but it wasn't because he was absolutely against wrestling in college. He also passed on same chance at Buffalo, Army, Navy.
It is a kick in the teeth for the LEHIGH WRESTLING PROGRAM. Once again, lose another local talent that is about once in a generation. Now if Kolin Rath decides on Missouri tonight, it will be another kick in the teeth for LEHIGH WRESTLING.
Rob Rohn preferred baseball to wrestling. Baseball he was 3rd string at Clarion. He transferred to Lehigh for wrestling. So there is hope!
